They come from cancelled orders - typically when a customer changes their mind about the finish colour or cancels after the mantel has already been made in our workshop. This mantel is in perfect condition, it is not a “second" or damaged. The only reason we’re selling them at a discount is that it is currently taking up space in our storage area of the workshop – storage that we need for other orders that we are busy making. Solid Oak Timber These shelves and mantels are handcrafted from the very best quality solid oak timber. The timber is air-dried and will therefore continue to dry out as it settles into its new environment. You can expect some movement to occur during this time. Each shelf is cut to size and finished in our workshop. This leaves in lots of natural, rustic timber characteristics and features. Mother Nature's own stamp of approval. In this timber, you can expect to find splits, cracks, knots, shakes, waney edges, bows, and twists along with sticker shadows and machine marks in keeping with the rustic style. These are the qualities that set our shelving apart from the rest. And due to the nature of solid wood, every shelf will be different. Truly unique. One of a kind. Rustic timber. You can expect to see some movement within the oak as it settles into its new environment. Please note that placing your item above or near to a heat source can cause this movement to exaggerate the timbers natural features further, particularly splits, cracks and twists. Fine Wax Finishes To finish these chunky wood shelves, we use your choice of one of our supreme wax polishes. Wax not only makes the timber look good, but it is also very durable.
