A solid side grain, or plank, woodblock for water based Japanese moku hanga and oil based relief printing.
Solid side grain magnolia wood block from Japan. These blocks are quite soft to cut and the grain can be cut across without difficulty. The surface of the wood is smooth making them ideal for areas of solid colour. These 10mm solid side grain blocks are nice and thick so both side can be carved.
To prepare for cutting we advise that you give the surface a quick sand along the grain with a fine 1000 grit paper. If you do wish to use both sides please ensure you protect the underside from getting dented or scratched.
